Itinerary – Sorrento coast and Capri boat tour – Fun & Swim:
Meeting point and departure.
Your day begins at 9:45 am at the Achille Lauro Parking (Via Correale 25, Sorrento), where our staff will meet you and take you to the port of Piano di Sorrento. Here, you’ll board the boat and get ready to set sail for Capri.
Cruising along the Sorrento Coast.
As you cruise along the coastline, you’ll admire the most iconic sites of the Sorrento Peninsula: the fishing village of Marina Grande, the Roman villa ruins at Bagni della Regina Giovanna, and a natural waterfall that flows from the rock at the bay of Mitigliano.
Boat tour around Capri Island.
Once in Capri, the complete boat tour around the island begins. You’ll visit the Marvelous Grotto, the White Grotto, and the Green Grotto. Weather and sea conditions permitting, you’ll also stop at the famous Blue Grotto. Along the way, you’ll see the Natural Arch, Villa Curzio Malaparte, the iconic Faraglioni rocks, and the lighthouse of Punta Carena.
Swim stops and relaxation.
During the cruise, the captain will stop at a few peaceful spots where you can swim and snorkel in crystal-clear waters. On board, enjoy snacks, refreshing drinks, and time to relax under the sun.
Return to Sorrento.
After a morning of sea, fun, and natural beauty, the boat will head back to the port of Sorrento. On the way, enjoy a farewell toast with a tasting of limoncello to end the day on a sweet note.
Notes
On the day of the tour, our shuttle will take you from the meeting point to our office for check-in. After the tour, you’ll return to the port of Sorrento, a central and convenient location. Need a transfer back to the meeting point? A return transfer is available on request as an optional service, bookable in advance or during check-in.
The visit to the Blue Grotto is always included; however, access depends on sea and weather conditions. In case of rough seas or adverse weather, entry may be suspended for safety reasons. During the high season, due to the large number of visitors, waiting times to enter the Blue Grotto can exceed 1 hour and 30 minutes. Nevertheless, to ensure that the full tour itinerary is respected, the stop dedicated to the Blue Grotto visit will have a maximum duration of 30 minutes. Please note that the local Blue Grotto staff may request a tip from visitors; this contribution is optional and not mandatory.
The price includes: ONE-WAY transfer from the meeting point in Sorrento to the port – Professional skipper English speaking – Snacks – Lunch on board (Caprese sandwich with mozzarella and tomato) – Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The price does not include: Entrance fee to the Blue Grotto, which is € 18,00 per person – Hotel pick-up and drop-off – Destination fee € 10,00 per person to be paid on the spot – Snorkeling equipment (it is advisable for the customers to bring their own or to buy it new before boarding: € 15,00 mask; € 9,00 snorkel).
Do not forget: Swimsuit – Beach towel – Sunscreen – Sun hat – Camera.
The Blue Grotto is Capri's most famous attraction: people from all over the world come to see it even for a few minutes. It is 25 meters wide and 60 meters long with an entrance less than a meter high. As a matter of fact, to enter it you have to lie on the bottom of a rowboat that slides through the small arch. Inside we find ourselves floating in the dark, on a water so blue that it seems transparent.
The blue color of the cave is given by the light of the sun that enters through a submarine window that opens exactly under the entrance gate, thus undergoing a filtration by the water, which absorbs the red and lets the blue go .
The entrance fee is payable exclusively on the spot at the floating box office anchored at the entrance of the cave (and only in cash). Unfortunately, in the summer you need to queue for hours to do the boat ride inside, which lasts only about 5 minutes.
It is very important to know that swimming is strictly forbidden and during the visit there is no way to swim. Swimming, apart from being illegal, is very dangerous: the entrance is low and narrow and just a little higher wave can make you finish with the head against the rock.
To highlight that the Blue Grotto is subject to closure because of the wind and the rough sea that make it impossible to enter.
You can access it in two ways: by sea (far preferable) and by land.
The Lighthouse of Punta Carena towers at the south-western end of the island of Capri, on the Limmo Peninsula, a name that derives from the Latin limen and means border. Beyond there is only sea and sea up to Sicily. Behind it rises the cliff of the Migliera path with the defense walls built by the British at the beginning of the 800s to protect Capri. The lighthouse, built in 1866, is among the most important of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the second in Italy for luminous intensity after that of Genoa. The Lighthouse of Punta Carena is one of the most popular seaside resorts of the island because of the always clean water and the sun shining all day long. A day in this place never ends if you do not want to …
The Green Grotto, known in ancient times as the Turkish Grotto, is located on the southern side of the island of Capri and is known for the colour of the water in its interior that, due to a special play of light, takes on the green color. The Green Grotto can only be reached by sea. A curiosity: near the Green Grotto, going towards the Lighthouse of Punta Carena, you can admire the Grotto of the Saints which takes its name from the characteristic shape of the rocks that emerge from the sea inside the cave itself and that look like a group of monks or people kneeling in prayer.
The Faraglioni of Capri are three large rocks that emerge from the sea, on the south-western side of the island. The highest is the Faraglione di Terra or Saetta, then there is the Faraglione di Mezzo or Stella separated from the first by the sea and in which there is the famous cavity in the center (taken in many films and TV spots) and finally there is the Faraglione di Fuori or Scopolo, natural habitat of the famous blue lizard. It is said that the lizard took these colors to blend in with the sea and the sky.
The Faraglioni for centuries have illuminated the moonless nights of the sailors: the name Faraglioni derives from the Greek pharos, which means lighthouse. In the past, fires were lit on these rocks to illuminate the ships' route.
A curiosity that not everyone knows is that there is a fourth secret stack called Scoglio del Monacone, which rises behind the three most famous. It owes its name to the monk seal that populated its waters since 1904 and seems to be the only one to have been inhabited.
Sailing around the island of Capri you will find numerous caves to discover. Two of the most striking are the White Grotto and the Marvellous Grotto, both close to the Faraglione di Matermania. Unlike other caves on the island of Capri, the opening of the Marvellous Grotto is not located at sea level but at a height of several meters.
Once inside, you are fascinated by the spectacle of stalactites and stalagmites and the view that you can enjoy on the sea below. Access to this splendid grotto is possible from a convenient ladder with a landing place for boats.
The peculiarity of the Marvellous Grotto is that of overlooking another cave, equally famous. Below, in fact, there is the opening of the White Cave, so called for the limestone volutes that literally decorate its vault and its walls. Another important characteristic is the presence of a stalagmite resembling the Virgin Mary in prayer.
The White Cave can only be accessed by sea.
The Blue Grotto is not included in the price of the tour as it’s a private Grotto. The entrance fee is payable exclusively on the spot at the floating box office anchored at the entrance of the cave and only in cash (€ 18,00 p.p.). The access to the Blue Grotto is always subject to weather conditions therefore inaccessibility does not depend on our company.
The boat will only wait a maximum time of 30 minutes in front of the Blue Grotto in order to comply with all the stages of the tour (please bear in mind that during high season the queue line could be of hours to enter this grotto).
Yes you will have some free time to swim and snorkel during the boat tour. The skipper will decide the best and most comfortable stops for you thanks to his experience.
Yes, lunch is included in the boat tour. You’ll enjoy a light lunch on board, typically a Caprese sandwich with mozzarella and tomato, along with snacks and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Yes, in case of bad weather/sea conditions the tour might be cancelled. In case of cancellation we are happy to offer our customers the choice of an alternative date or, in case of inability to rebook, the full refund.

Great way to experience Capri by the sea! The stops for swimming were amazing, especially near the Faraglioni rocks. The Blue Grotto was closed due to the tide, unfortunately, but the rest of the trip totally made up for it. Friendly crew and refreshing drinks onboard. This boat excursion is worth every euro!

This Capri boat tour from Sorrento was a great half-day escape from the crowds. The boat was sleek and modern, and the crew made sure we all had a good time. I especially loved cruising along the Sorrento coast and hearing some fun facts about the area. One of the best parts was visiting the Blue Grotto, an unforgettable experience that made this Capri tour truly special. Bonus points for the cold drinks and the delicious limoncello at the end!

So far, this Capri boat tour has been the best part of our trip to Italy! We swam in the clearest water I’ve ever seen and even got a chance to go inside the Blue Grotto.
