The Island of Capri is located in the Gulf of Naples, just a few miles from Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. The island is 10 square kilometers large and is divided into two municipalities: Capri and Anacapri. The center of Capri develops around the Piazzetta, about 150 meters above the sea level. Anacapri is located higher up, at 275 meters above the sea level.
Directly on the sea you will find two places: Marina Grande (where the Port is located) and Marina Piccola (on the opposite side of the Port, where the Faraglioni are located).
To get from the Port of Marina Grande to the center of Capri the most convenient and fastest way is the funicular: the ticket office is on the right hand side of the hydrofoils' arrival pier. Instead, to get from Marina Grande directly to Anacapri, you have to take the bus from the port.
Once disembarked at the Port of Marina Grande, take the funicular and arrive directly to the famous Piazzetta di Capri, also known as the "living room of the world": the center of local social life.
From here you will be spoiled for choice: you can go down to Corso Vittorio Emanuele and continue to Via Camerelle to enjoy some shopping or simply look at the windows of the biggest luxury brands in the world. For the more curious you can visit the Centro Caprese Ignazio Cerio (just behind the Piazzetta) to get information on the ancient history of Capri. On foot you can take a pleasant walk through the characteristic medieval district of Sant'Anna and then arrive at the Certosa of San Giacomo, the medieval jewel of Capri.
Another must-see in Capri is definitely the Gardens of Augustus, from which the Faraglioni can be admired from afar. The Gardens of Augustus consist of a series of flowery terraces overlooking on one side the Faraglioni, on the other side the Bay of Marina Piccola and the hairpins of Via Krupp.
In the early 1900s the German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp used to spend his summer holidays in Capri. Krupp, who was fond of marine biology, docked with his yacht at Marina Piccola, but found it inconvenient to reach his suite at the Quisisana.
For this reason he commissioned the engineer Emilio Mayer to build a road that climbed up from Marina Piccola to the Certosa of San Giacomo and the Gardens of Augustus. The engineer cut the rock to life and, overcoming a drop of about 100 meters, built one of the most spectacular roads in the world: a series of hairpins so tight as to seem overlapping.
Unfortunately, via Krupp is currently closed due to the danger of falling rocks and it is therefore possible to admire it only from the top of the Gardens of Augustus.
Via Tragara is one of the most beautiful walks of Capri: a place made of peace and pervaded by the scent of flowers and trees that surround it. It begins after the shopping street Via Camerelle and ends with a surprising belvedere on the Faraglioni. This quiet and elegant street is surrounded by palm trees, eucalyptus and cypress trees and is flanked by some historic villas of Capri, including: Villa Capricorno, Villa Discopoli, Villa Lo Studio and Casa di Arturo with its beautiful view of the Marina Piccola bay, Villa Tragara and Villa Lo Smeraldo.
Walking along this road will feel like stepping into a daydream.
At the end of Via Camerelle, when the glamour and worldliness of high fashion boutiques end, a steep but short climb begins in the nature that leads to Via Tragara, which ends with a suggestive terrace lookout on the Faraglioni. From this splendid terrace you can also admire the typical Caprese houses climbing on the slopes, Mount Solaro and the bay of Marina Piccola.
From the Belvedere of Tragara you can get to the Pizzolungo promenade, which leads to the Natural Arch, from the small road that runs along the terrace on the right. Pizzolungo is a particularly evocative path, pleasant in summer and spectacular in winter. The mountain is covered by a thick and spontaneous vegetation and truly gives the illusion of being away from the world and outside of the concept of time.
The path abounds with panoramic viewpoints and continues pleasantly up to meet a narrow and steep staircase that leads to the Grotto of Matermania, also known as Grotta del Matrimonio or Matromania. The discoveries made inside the cave do not clearly indicate which deity it was dedicated to in ancient times, although its sacred purpose is beyond doubt. After leaving the cave you have to climb about 200 steps to get to the top where, along a small road on the right, you get to the Natural Arch. The Natural Arch is an amazing example of paleolithic sculpture and is what remains of a deep and very high cavity, which originally was underground but, following a landslide, was exposed and revealed in its current form. It has the features of a natural bridge between two pillars of rock and its semicircular split frames a fabulous panorama.
All it takes is stepping ashore at Marina Grande or strolling through the narrow streets of the historic center to admire the colorful houses—some low, some tall, with barrel-vaulted roofs—embraced by bougainvillea. As you look at and photograph these buildings, you realize that each one is different, each one is special, because they tell a unique story: the story of their owner. In Capri there is one private residence that, more than any other, reflects the personality of its owner: Villa Malaparte, the home of Curzio Malaparte.
Villa Malaparte dominates the Bay of Matermania with its Pompeian red walls and offers a dreamlike view: to the south-east you can see the Sorrento Peninsula while to the south you can admire the Faraglioni of Capri and the Scoglio del Monacone.
Its parallelepiped shape is striking, blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Outside, the structure is connected to the sea by a staircase that also links the house to the rooftop solarium, where the writer loved to spend his days. The walls are characterized by four large frameless windows that open onto fabulous views. Particularly stunning is the fireplace, with a crystal base that allows the sea to be seen through the flames as they burn.
Unfortunately, Villa Malaparte cannot be visited, but it can only be admired from a distance. To catch a glimpse of it, take the Pizzolungo trail; just after passing the Grotta of Matermania you will find it in front of you, right on the promontory of Capo Masullo, surrounded by pine trees.
The Faraglioni of Capri are three large rocks that emerge from the sea, on the south-western side of the island. The highest is the Faraglione di Terra or Saetta, then there is the Faraglione di Mezzo or Stella separated from the first by the sea and in which there is the famous cavity in the center (taken in many films and TV spots) and finally there is the Faraglione di Fuori or Scopolo, natural habitat of the famous blue lizard. It is said that the lizard took these colours to blend in with the sea and the sky.
The Faraglioni for centuries have illuminated the moonless nights of the sailors: the name Faraglioni derives from the Greek pharos, which means lighthouse. In the past, fires were lit on these rocks to illuminate the ships' route.
A curiosity that not everyone knows is that there is a fourth secret stack called Scoglio del Monacone, which rises behind the three most famous. It owes its name to the monk seal that populated its waters since 1904 and seems to be the only one to have been inhabited.
The stop at the Blue Grotto is not included by default. You can visit it by selecting the “Blue Grotto stop” option when booking, available for an additional €20.00 per person. This option can only be added at the time of booking, not on the day of the tour.
Yes, you will have free time to swim and snorkel during the boat tour. Based on their experience, the skipper will select the best and most comfortable spots for you to enjoy.
Yes, lunch is included in the boat tour. You’ll enjoy a light lunch, typically a Caprese sandwich with mozzarella and tomato, along with snacks and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Boat tour around the island of Capri with swimming and snorkeling stops
The day started setting the tone for what would be a relaxing and memorable experience. The skipper was not only knowledgeable but also very engaging, sharing fascinating tidbits about each location. We explored several caves, had fun swimming in the clear sea and enjoyed our free time on the island. The tour ended with a delightful limoncello tasting.

I can't say enough good things about our Capri boat tour from Naples. The day started with an easy transfer to the port and just kept getting better. The skipper was engaging and provided interesting facts about the sights. We saw stunning locations like the Green Grotto and the Natural Arch, and the swim stops were perfect for cooling off. The free time on Capri was wonderful – enough time to explore and enjoy the island.

From the moment we met at the Star Hotel Terminus, everything was perfectly arranged. The boat was comfortable and our group felt like family. The tour included stops at beautiful grottos and we even had time for snorkeling. The views of the Faraglioni and the villa of Curzio Malaparte were breathtaking. The skipper was professional and made sure we all had a great time.
Beautiful and relaxing day at sea and on Capri. It was great getting out of Naples for the day. At first I was hesitant to commit a full day to Capri and the tour and considered taking a Ferry over myself however, I was really glad I booked through Viator. They took care of all the transportation from Naples. My hosts Francesca & Mattia were incredible. Both were really informative and explained sites we saw along the coast, gave suggestions on what to see in Capri and provided refreshments and food on the boat. Well worth the time and money and some of the best photos from my trip to Italy.
Best time ever!
