Depart from Portimão with a qualified crew and a small group of just 10 passengers, aboard a comfortable eco-friendly vessel. You will sail along the waters of the Arade River to the town of Silves in complete silence and respect for the environment. Upon arriving in Silves, you’ll be granted free time to uncover its historical treasures, like the imposing Silves Castle and the Gothic Sé Cathedral, and meander through the town’s picturesque cobblestone alleys.
Program of the river cruise from Portimão to Silves:
- Meet 15 minutes before the departure time, at Marina de Portimão at Pier ‘A’, 8500-345 Portimão.
- The tour starts from Marina de Portimão, where you will immediately be able to admire the storied Castelo de São João do Arade, a medieval fortress defending against pirate invasions. Sailing on our silent, eco-friendly boat, you will embrace the unspoiled coastal landscapes and listen to the sounds of nature, in complete silence and respect for the environment.
- Traveling along the Arade River, once a vital trade route and connection point to the Atlantic ocean, our knowledgeable guide, will share fascinating insights about the surrounding ecosystem, historical landmarks, and cultural highlights.
- Upon reaching Silves, enjoy around 1.5 hours of free time to explore its tranquil streets. Once the capital of the Algarve, the city boasts a cobbled historic center dotted with important landmarks. In particular, the imposing Silves Castle stands as a testament to the city’s past, a fortification of great importance during the Moorish rule of the region. Equally impressive is the Sé Cathedral, built from the same red sandstone that gives much of Silves’ architecture its distinctive warm hue.
- Upon returning to the boat, relax with a light snack and refreshment provided by our crew. The return journey to Marina de Portimão offers a perfect moment to relax, accompanied by the sounds of nature or gentle background music.
- The tour ends after about 4 hours and 30 minutes with the return to Marina de Portimão.
*Please note the boat does not have restroom facilities. We recommend using the facilities at Marina de Portimão before the departure or during your stop in Silves.
