The Ria Formosa Natural Park, a haven for nature enthusiasts, is internationally recognized and protected under the “Natura 2000” initiative, which is dedicated to safeguarding the area’s diverse animal species. During this boat tour, with a select group of 10 people, you’ll navigate the park’s canals, visit Ilha Deserta and Ilha da Culatra, and delve into their unique characteristics.

Program of the boat excursion to Ria formosa Natural Park:

  • Meet 15 minutes before departure time at the Port of Faro. Upon reaching the “Santa Maria Petisca Ria” restaurant, continue walking until you spot the flags. Here, you’ll find the “Ocean Emotions” shop sign and the Ocean Vibes logo.
  • The tour commences with a leisurely cruise through Ria Formosa Natural Park, a nature reserve safeguarded by the “Natura 2000” project. With the expertise and knowledge of the marine biologist on board, you’ll uncover intriguing facts about the numerous animal species residing in this area. Marvel at some of the 223 bird varieties that call it home, including the “purple swamphen,” which serves as the park’s symbol, royal pythias, and the iconic flamingos. But also the typical Portuguese Cao de Agua (water dog), and if you look closely, you might spot the chameleons, perfectly camouflaged in the colors of nature.
  • Our navigation will take us to Ilha Deserta, one of the many barrier islands separating the Natural Park from the sea. Here, you’ll find serenity, unspoiled beaches, and a wooden path leading to Cape Santa Maria, the southernmost point of Portugal. Characterized by clear, calm waters, we’ll pause here for a swim and a refreshing break.
  • Next, we’ll head to Ilha da Culatra, an enchanting and ancient fishing village situated on the same sandy island as Ilha do Farol. You’ll have approximately 1 hour of free time to explore the splendid beaches overlooking the ocean, enjoy a drink, or savor local cuisine at one of the charming bars and restaurants.
  • Once on board, we’ll slowly sail back to the Port of Faro, crossing Ria Formosa once again and admiring the captivating natural scenery it offers to visitors.
  • The tour concludes after approximately 3 hours, returning you to the Port of Faro.
