Punta Lagno is a cliff in the Municipality of Massa Lubrense. The rocks are grey colored, flat and polished. In the area there are many villas built around the 60s, which have a private descent on these rocks. Punta Lagno is a hamlet that is 1,23 km from the same town of Massa Lubrense, of which it is part. Along the coast there is a cove that has a not too high wall, which falls sheer to the sea. In the wall in living stone on the right you can see a small jump of water, the so-called famous waterfall “Cascatella”.
Frosty water gushes out of the moss-covered rock. It seems that this water was conveyed there many centuries ago by means of an aqueduct with the aim of supplying the boats that went to Punta della Campanella and Capri.
The Marina di Puolo marks the beginning of the coast of Sorrento and, seen from the Sorrento coast, the bay of Puolo is located halfway between Marina Grande of Sorrento and Marina della Lobra of Massa Lubrense. It takes its name from Roman Pollio Felice, an illustrious member of a noble family from Pozzuoli and owner of a villa whose ruins are still visible nearby.
The poet Publio Papilio Stazio celebrated Pollio’s villa in two charms, in which he also told how the nobleman decided to build a new temple at Hercules near the beach. The magnificence of the villa is still witnessed today by remains and finds scattered throughout the area, so numerous as to make you think more of a small town than a dwelling.
Marina di Puolo is a typical fishing village and boasts one of the most beautiful beaches of the coastal stretch of Capo di Massa. The bay of Puolo is so close to Sorrento that it won’t be difficult to reach it just for an afternoon excursion or a dinner by the sea.
Hiking enthusiasts can follow the path that connects Sorrento to Marina di Puolo, through olive groves, lemon groves and flowering gardens.
During the tour you can admire an unparalleled panorama, which also includes the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius. This panoramic path is of low difficulty, but includes several stairs. Once you get to your destination you can walk along the beach and watch the fishermen struggling with the catch of the day or rent a sunbed and an umbrella and relax by the sea.
At sunset, when the locals mingle with the tourists, Puolo bay boasts an even more characteristic atmosphere.
Sorrento has always been a sought-after destination for exclusive tourism. There is a particular place, which testifies how much the peninsula since antiquity was chosen as a holiday destination: the Baths of Queen Giovanna, a fascinating uncontaminated basin, worthy of a queen.
It is a cliff located at the head of Sorrento, as well as one of the most important archaeological sites of the Sorrento peninsula. An enchanting place, where nature, sea and past blend together. The name, according to legend, is due to Queen Giovanna D'Angiò, sovereign of Naples.
It is a real natural pool surrounded by the cliff. The water is emerald-coloured and a natural arch makes you see the open sea from which it remains protected.
It is said that the Queen was vacationing in this area between 1371 and 1435 and that she took baths with her young lovers in this place because the natural shape of the basin surrounded by rocks kept her away from prying eyes.
The Baths of Queen Giovanna are a treasure trove of history and host the remains of an ancient Roman villa, whose name was "Villa Pollio Felice", which stood right on the promontory of the head of Sorrento. Today, of this structure dating back to the 1st century BC and reachable both from land and sea, only the ruins remain.
