Trapani is located on the so-called “coast of sunsets”, a place where the fire-red sun sets on the horizon and colors the atmosphere with a very special light. Watching Trapani and the Egadi Islands while the sun goes down, thanks to the strategic location of the city, is an exceptional experience. There are many places where you can admire the show of the sunset in Trapani, this is true, but watching it from the sea will leave you absolutely speechless. You will be able to admire all the beauty of the Sicilian coast, to take pictures of the Ligny Tower and the Colombaia from the sea, to admire the Tramontana Walls embracing the city of Trapani and to watch the sun going down behind the Egadi Islands. All this while you enjoy an excellent aperitif with the best musical background and, if you want to dive, just jump into the sea. At the end of the day you will have taken unique photos and videos.
The Ligny Tower, or “Turrignì” in Sicilian, is a military tower of Trapani located in the western part of the coast. It marks the watershed between the Mediterranean Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea and for this reason it is also called “tower between two seas”. The tower encloses an important piece of history of Trapani: when the city was at the center of enemy attacks and raids, the tower played a key role, both thanks to its privileged position, and for the richness of its raw materials such as wine, tuna and salt. The tower dates back to the 17th century and it is named after the prince of Ligny, the viceroy of Sicily Claude Lamoral, who ordered its construction. Today the tower has been completely restored and can be visited, paying a ticket of 1 euro.
The Colombaia Castle, also called Sea Castle, is one of the symbols of the city of Trapani. Legend has it that Hannibal’s father, Amilcare Barca, founded the Colombaia Tower during the First Punic War, but the actual octagonal shape is merit of the Aragonese who built it the way it is now during the Dark Ages to defend Trapani from the Barbarian raids. During the Kingdom of the two Sicilies, the Colombaia Tower was used as a prison by the Bourbons. The castle is located on an islet in front of Trapani and is therefore accessible only by sea, that’s why it is also called Sea Castle. While the most common and current name of Colombaia Castle comes from the period when this was completely abandoned: the imposing structure became, in fact, an excellent refuge for the doves (Colombaia means dovecot in English). Today the castle can also be visited inside.
In ancient times, during the Spanish domination, the Tramontana Walls defended the entire perimeter of the city of Trapani and it was possible to enter inside through various doors that controlled the entry and exit of citizens and foreigners. Today, between Piazza Mercato del Pesce and Bastione Conca, it is possible to see almost 1 kilometre of the ancient walls, and that’s all that remains of Tramontana Walls. Anyway, they are definitely one of the most romantic and panoramic places in the whole city and seeing them from the sea at sunset is a unique spectacle, it will be just like going back in time and coasting the ancient Trapani!
Happy hour and sunset are a match made in heaven. Sipping a good wine, accompanying it with some appetizers, and enjoying the beauty of Trapani at sunset...all of this makes this time of the day extremely pleasant. Here the peculiarity of the aperitif is the presence of raw fish with bread: besides, Egadi and Sicily are the home to tuna fishery. The second peculiarity is the “pane cunzato” which in Sicilian dialect means “filled bread”: it is crispy bread, generally served hot, and filled to taste, but most of the times “pane cunzato” is stuffed with cheese and anchovies. On board our boats you will find “bruschette”, “caponata”, marinated anchovies and various tuna products, all accompanied by water, wine and prosecco sparkling wine.
Yes you will have some free time to swim and snorkel during the boat tour. The skipper will decide the best and most comfortable stop for you thanks to his experience.
Yes, in case of bad weather/sea conditions the tour might be cancelled. In case of cancellation we are happy to offer our customers the choice of an alternative date or, in case of inability to rebook, the full refund.
