Program of the Favignana island boat tour from Trapani:
Meeting point in the port of Trapani (Marina di Levante, Via Ammiraglio Staiti, 18, 91100 Trapani TP).
Start of the boat tour, heading to Favignana island. The first stop in Favignana will be the bay of Cala Rossa: one of the most beautiful bays in Sicily, it seems to resemble a large amphitheater protected by rocks in a turquoise and clear sea. Here, you will have the chance to swim and snorkel.
The tour continues with a stop at the bay of Bue Marino, a unique landscape where the turquoise sea contrasts with dark blue spots, creating a show of colors and shades that will leave you breathless.
The next stop is Cala Azzurra bay, one of the best beaches in Sicily and one of the most suggestive places in Favignana: the shallow sea depths and clarity of its waters make Cala Azzurra similar to a great natural swimming pool. It is also really easy to see fishes swimming around your legs and diving with them.
The fourth stop will be at the Grotta degli Innamorati or “Lovers Cave”, one of the most evocative places that Favignana can offer. The grotto is named after two rocks, located one next to the other in a tight submarine hug. Inside, you will discover a secret bay: one of the rarest treasures of Egadi Islands.
There will be a stop of a couple of hours in the main port of Favignana, allowing you to visit the island by land. Once back on board, you will return to the port of Trapani.
The price includes: Professional skipper – Assistant on board – Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks – Equipment for snorkeling – Underwater action camera.
The price does not include: Hotel pick-up and drop-off – Lunch.
Do not forget: Swimsuit – Beach towel – Sunscreen – Sun hat – Camera.
This small cove in Favignana is famous all over the world for its beauty and for being theatre of the Punic wars in 200 BC. Cala Rossa, “red cove” in English, takes its name from the color of the blood shed during the first Punic war in 242 BC.
Until a few years ago it was inhabited by monk seals, this bay has a long history of stone quarrymen whose activity is still visible in this stretch of coast. Here you will admire a beautiful landscape scattered with tuff quarries, and in some spots it is still possible to see the stone slides that were used to load the blocks of tuff on the “schifazzi” (typical wooden boats) and then used to build houses and buildings.
One of the most accessible and certainly one of the most beautiful coves of the island of Favignana, characterized by a crystal clear sea and amazing landscape. The water is almost transparent and the sand looks like sugar; it is one of the most comfortable beaches to go to and the perfect place to relax.
A wonderful cave named after two identical rocks, held in a submarine embrace. The Grotta degli Innamorati is a romantic and fascinating stop during the boat tour around Favignana. The name of the cave comes from the presence of two absolutely identical rocks at the bottom of the cave, placed one next to the other in a submarine hug. The cave extends inside the mountain for about ten meters in a series of tunnels, leading to a golden cave, one of the rarest treasure of Egadi Islands.
You will have about two hours free time to visit all the best of the island of Favignana by land. It consists of two flat areas separated by a mountain range, giving the island the shape of a butterfly. Like all the Egadi Islands, Favignana is famous for its heavenly coasts, caves and beaches. During this boat tour to Favignana from Trapani, however, you will also have the chance to stop to visit by land the historic center of the island: two hours will be enough. Our advice is to walk through the cobblestone streets of this peculiar fishing village that dates back to 1600 and to taste typical Sicilian and local fish products. Once on the island by the harbor, it will not be difficult for you to glimpse the Villa Florio, the 19th century residence of a rich industrial family that gave the island a notable economic boost. Today the villa only partly accessible, being the seat of the City Council and of the Municipal Library.
The island of Favignana is the largest of the Egadi Islands: it extends for about 19 kilometers, is 9 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide, with a circumference of 32 sq km. You can reach the island of Favignana by ferry or hydrofoil, or you can take a tour all around the island with a boat tour starting directly from the port of Trapani.
The island of Favignana is just over 19 miles away from Trapani. If you choose to travel by ferry from Trapani to Favignana it will take about one hour, while the hydrofoil takes between 20 and 30 minutes.
