Visited every year by thousands of tourists and a must-see destination of Sicily, Cefalù has maintained the charm of the typical medieval Italian village, son of the Arab-Norman culture, with its narrow streets, restaurants, small shops and ice cream parlours where you can enjoy an excellent Sicilian ice cream. The central square of the village of Cefalù is dominated by the Duomo, a Norman cathedral of the 12th century declared UNESCO heritage site in 2015: legend has it that it was built by King Ruggero II as a vow, after being saved from a storm at sea. A second attraction of the historical center of Cefalù is the ancient Lavatoio, a medieval wash-house hosting a number of ancient basins, fed by the Cefalino river that flows out from twenty-two iron lion-shaped mouths: the waters of the river are considered extremely pure because, according to the legend, they are the tears shed by a nymph after she killed the man that cheated on her. Until recently the wash-house was still used by the local women. Another particularly fascinating attraction, especially from the sea perspective, is the Bastione di Capo Marchiafava, an ancient defensive building that dominates the whole coast of Cefalù, from east to west. Finally La Rocca di Cefalù: a little difficult to reach on foot, La Rocca protects the castle with its walls and the temple of Diana: from the sea you can admire all the majesty of La Rocca and take wonderful photos!
Cefalù, besides being a typical Italian village, has also one of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily: its coast is invaded by tourists from all over the world who want to take a dip in the crystal clear sea or sunbathe on the white sand. Getting to the beach of Cefalù from the sea means not only taking a dip while looking at the beautiful panorama of the Duomo and La Rocca, but also ensuring a relaxing place to fully enjoy the sea, without the chaos of the summer season. Another ideal place for lovers of tranquility is the beach of Sant'Ambrogio, characterized by transparent waters, with a coastline of sandy beaches and pebbles that make it a charming destination. Mazzaforno Bay, another pearl among the beaches of Cefalù, is famous for the beautiful colors of the sea: from the blue to turquoise, passing through the white. Inside this spotless bay, you will find a wilder beach, especially if seen from the sea: it is the Settefrati beach, dominated by rock formations that emerge from the sea, some of these are low and can even be walked; others, on the contrary, emerge further out and have the appearance of majestic stacks. Among the many reasons to discover Cefalù from the sea there is also the unique opportunity to take a dip in the Cave of Santa Lucia, which takes its name from the patron saint of Cefalù: the magic entrance created by the unique shape of the rocks that characterize it, is just a preview of the feeling that you will have when you find yourself inside: a must see.
Cefalù has, among the many, two great virtues: the food and the sea, so...having an aperitif by the sea of Cefalù is definitely an experience to try. And what if the aperitif is not by the sea but on the sea? Choosing the boat tour, you will not only discover the best of Cefalù, touching the most pristine beaches and the most beautiful places, but you will be able to enjoy typical appetizers of Cefalù accompanied by local wines, known all over the world. Let the captain offer you an aperitivo overlooking the sea, it will be the perfect way to end of your visit to Cefalù.
